Alright. I think I'm ready to begin getting my Mercury XR4 150 Black Max ready for the water...after sitting for the past 7 years. I have all my tools, parts, lubricants, etc. all laid out and ready to begin...but now I have a question? When I start checking compression and spark by turning over the engine with a remote starter, do I need to have the Fuel Line and Oil Injection connected and running properly? I really don't want to score the walls of the cylinder. Right now, I have everything unhooked. Is this going to cause any problems when I turn the motor over?

Should I spray some fogging spray into the cylinders before I get started? Is there anything else I need to do before I begin?

Just so you know, here are the things I will be doing to the motor (that i am currently aware of):

1. Currently, only 3 sparks fire. I will be replacing a switch box. Hopefully it's just the one, and not both.

2. Installing a new Water Pump

3. Rebuilding the Fuel Pump

4. Replacing Plugs and Wires

5. Installing a new Low Oil Module

6. Replacing old Oil Lines.

As always, thanks so much for your help. I wouldn't be attempting this without you guys.

You don't want gas running through it during compression and timing checks. Normally if it's been running, it's oily enough. After storage, it wouldn't hurt to spray a little fogging oil into it.

yer on the right track. Let us know how she runs.
