ok to put into gear out of the weater?

Is it ok to shift the boat (in my case '89 Invader w/ the 3.0L Mercruiser Alpha I) into gear when I'm in the driveway w/ the muffs attached?<br /><br />If it is ok, does it matter how long it runs like that?

Doesn't hurt a thing. Just for safety sake, it's a good idea to remove the prop.

I don't think you will hurt it at idle....I would not rev. past idle, though....and I wouldn't do it for extended periods, either....JK

:p Just make sure your wifes truck is not behind boat when you do because it will spray out for a distance. :eek:

Like others have said...no problem, but I would more than recommend prop removal, I'd say it's mandatory. Avoid being part of a horror story and the 'Nightly Newscast'

Dont change from foward to reverse/reverse to forward until you have shifted into neutral and let the prop stop turning. :eek:
