Ok, I have gotten my hands on the outboard my brother and I used as kids. It is a 20hp Merc 200 that our dad assembled from parts. It needs a few things like a carb kit and I want to pull the heads as it has sat for 7 years or more without being properly stored and it may have been run with a cylinder getting no oil. My dad thinks all parts were from 1967-1971. The powerhead is one year, the mid is another, the lower is another. How can I fugure out what year the powerhead/lu is so I can get parts? Does Merc stamp the block or anything?

Unfortunately that engine has no head, it is a sealed unit. To get to the cylinder you will have to disassemble the motor and take the case apart in 2 pieces. Not recommended unless you are somewhat mechanically inclined. You will need a manual for this. Merc does put a stamp on the power head on a little "freeze plug" looking thing called a welsh plug. The carb kit for those motors where all the same as where the lower units.
