All,
I have cleaned up a few old outboards (1950's) but I have a found a old 1953 5 HP Seahorse that I could pick up fairly reasonable.

Are the normal replacement parts available?..Meaning (where applicable) ignition points, coil, carb kit, impellor, lower unit seal kit.

Thanks,
Chris

The '53 5hp would be a TN-28. It should have the universal OMC magneto, and also uses a waterpump impeller similar to, and easily made from, later 5.7/7.5 impellers. That's about where the modern easily found parts end. You have to get creative from there, using a plastic Mercury float to replace the old cork one, buying seals individually, by dimension at a supply house, making your own gaskets, scouring eBay for NOS parts when needed, etc.

F_R on this forum sells the machined hub impellers for this, short of that you have to bore out your own.

As Scott stated, about the only thing you can buy are the coils, everything else is DIY. I love the TNS, they are sturdy, good running motors. However, they are finicky, and are notorious for leaking fuel if the carbs are not done right.

HighTrim\All,
Thanks for the information!

I have contacted F_R in a private Message....See what he says about the impellor.

The carbs are fairly simple, at least from what I have seen in my 4....So it will take some custom work but I think I may be able to get through the carb.

Are Points\Condensor available?

Thanks,
Chris

Yeah sorry where I said coils, I should have said magneto. The points/condensors are all from the universal magneto, very easily found. They used them on most of the 50s OMCS.

The following site helped me with my TN 28.
