Re: Old aluminum mystery boat?
if it was registered then call WLF with the registration numbers and they can tell you the brand name and hull the ID number its registered under.
the hull ID number should be on a name plate riveted to the transom. on newer boats its usually on one of the outside back corners, on older boats it would be on the transom next to or on the opposite side where the motor and weight capacity plate is. sometimes the boat number is also on that plate. if you have to add a hull ID number plate to the boat when you register it you will be told where they want it located.
as for brand that should be easy to guess by figuring out the area it came from when it should have been new. there weren't a large number of boat makers or styles back then so the shape and location should narrow it down to one or two brands, maybe three at the most. then google searching old pictures and asking around with the old timers at the dock might help you with more clues. hell if you find something that looks like it then call it that brand because that's all you need to register it and nobody can tell you its not if you cant tell.
if you put your motor on it and they catch you without papers on the boat you may never get your motor back not to mention the trouble it could cause you.
as to the motor, older boats aren't made the same as newer boats so that 65 might rip the transom right off or crack it and sink the boat, if you are set on using it you better reinforce it with 3/4 plywood and maybe double it
