I don't know about the metal flake, so you may want to double check this product. 3M makes a fiberglass wax and restorer, it is a one step product just apply it and buff it out (label says you don't have to buff out, but I got an awesome shine when I buffed mine), I used it with an orbital buffer and it was pretty simple and offered great results.

Get ya some 600 and 1200 grit wet sanding paper, find an inconspicuous spot, and wet sand with plenty of water with 600 and 1200. You would be amazed at how good it looks. If it turns out, then you can do the entire top. Then polish it with a good marine polish and you should be all set. I have achived shine in a boat that is over 30 years old, it had zero shine. Its a ton of work, but the end result is worth it. Any paint would require sanding anyway, so the work would be similar.

wet sand , wet sand, wet sand , wet sand... look at my pic, i wet sanded with 600 grit 3m paper, and then used the 3m fiberglass restore & wax, and THEN used starbrights boat fiberglass wax... ill let you guess which is before, and wich is after, and by the way, my boat is a 1960 glasspar, had been sitting outside, in florda for 18years uncovered

Use 3M fiberglass restorer/wax; the heavy duty stuff. I burned mine in with a right angle polisher and it really brought out the fiberglass. Use a "pro" right angle polisher; it looks like a big angle grinder...Orbitals work OK but can't get the heavy oxidation off. You could probably rent one cheap. I can't say enough about this stuff. Try it before the wet sanding. It worked on my '85 Sea Ray...
