1979 22' searay cuddy, i just purchased this boat. hull floor, all the fiberglass is in great shape, even the transom, no soft spots anywhere. the prob is that water is in the oil, the motor cranks, but i'm hoping for the best. the engine is a 305 chevy, same as in my truck, he says its a 89, boat had a 350 in it when he bought it how ever many years ago. its winterized and so like i said i'm hoping for the best. is the 89 model year much diff than the older 305's? i'm hoping parts will be a breeze to find. also if anyone knows the prop number for an 89 305 i'd be greatful. guys encourage me and tell me i did good. merc alpha 1 outdrive

Parts are easy to find but I think you have a cracked block or exhaust manifold. Unless it sat outside uncovered with carb uncovered and rain water seeped past the rings.

i'd be more than happy with a cracked manifold. i haven't picked it up yet so i haven't done anything thorough yet. on top of the engine there are four hoses entering the manifold, whats the correct procedure for determining it has a cracked block? hook up a garden hose and run water into it and see what happens? i know if it comes out of the dipstick hole than for sure a cracked block. what else should i do or look for before i scrap the block?
