Hi all,
Ran into a bit of a issue today trying to get this boat my dad gave to me legal. I can't find a hin number to give the DMV to get a registration. The only numbers where the hin should be is 11404 which is a serial number and not remotely close to the correct format for a HIN. The Boat is a MFG Cartop fisherman 12', they were made from 1964-72, only in their final year was the hin even invented. According further reading because it don't have a live well it's 1968 or older so it theoretically shouldn't have a HIN. Here in Michigan boats with out a permanent motor and that are under 20' don't need a title, the lack of a title wouldn't be a big deal if it had a hin. My dad bought it sometime in the late 80's or early 90's (tags expired 1992) from a elderly man who (as far as he can remember) died a few months later and never gave him paperwork on the boat and my dad doesnt remember the old mans name and if there was a bill of sale it has long been lost so the boat was stuffed away and forgotten. Basically I want to get this old fiberglass gal going again but I don't know if I can since there's no paperwork, hin, bill of sale or title and the last registered owner has been dead for a quarter of a century or more. Basically what I'm asking with the given info above is with a bill of sale from my dad to me and the MC number on the bow can I get tags for this damn thing?! Any help would be great.
Regards
