Old Carpet Removal

I have recently purchased a 1979 Skeeter Wrangler bass boat. The boat still has the original carpet and it is in terrible shape. The carpet pulled up fine on the front deck and floor. I am having problems getting if off the plastic hatch covers and live well covers. It only comes up in little pieces of fibers leaving the backing and glue still attached. Is there anyway to get this carpet up?

Yes, use a heat gun (obviously use caution and don't overheat the plastic.)

This will soften the glue and allow the carpet to come up in one large piece. Usually you'll have to be pulling on the edge of the carpet once the glue starts to soften.
