Iv'e got an early 70's Sea King 35 hp, can i run TCW-3 synthetic oil at 50:1 in it? Thanks-Tad

Would synthetic oil be compatible with your vintage SeaKing? My 1969 Chrysler 20 HP is using TCWIII just now, before, what my father bought from the dealer, I do not think there were TCW oils then, just straight SAE 30 motor oil. I don't think it will make a difference except for the burnt smell of hard earned cash that could be spent in PFD's!

I'm using non synthetic TCW-3. My '70 Chrysler owners manual says to use a 40W outboard motor oil.

For all force and chrysler outboard engine owners my personal preference is quicksilver premium plus tcw3 outboard oil and the best gas your town can sell and highest octane the second choice on outboard oil would be chevron premium plus tc3 and of course all force and chrysler outboards are 50:1 mix. A properly tuned outboard will run best on the octane it is rated for.Usually 87.Running too<br />high an octane is truly a waste of money.<br />In my opinion synthetic oils main advantage is low<br />carbon/ash and they are considered biodegradable.

Force 1:<br /><br />Have you ever used Johnson XD5 on your Force or Chrysler engines. Johnson (a subsidiary of Bombardier) claims it has 25% more additives than any other brand.<br /><br />The problem is that only in the long run you can assess if your choice of oil was good or bad for the motor. If you know how to determine if oil is good or bad before hand, please let me know.

i dont know about anyone else but i have trouble using pennzoil synthetic in my 71 chrysler 70hp<br />it doesnt seem to burn off and leaves a film on my plugs but quicksilver has never let me down

RBRUCE,<br />One of my friends dads is chemical engineer for one of the big refineries another friend owns a shop that the big C oil company buys their outboards from to do their testing and some input from friends inside mercury and my 20 yrs of rebuilding outboards and asking customers what they have been running for fuel and oil. this is how i have come to my earlier post. thanks, bret
