old evinrude sparkplug cap

good day all:can anyone tell me the proper srarkplug cap for a 1948 evinrude 3.3 sportwin #4423.the motor came with no insulating caps and i can see the motor sparking to the engine cover.<br />cap to engine cover clearance is an issue. i have acces to ngk caps through work.any ideas ??????<br /><br />thanks Z

zanman<br />my book dosen't cover your engine, but I would think .030 for the plug gap and .020 for the points. I would use any insulators I could fit on it at this point.<br />Richard

Zanman..........<br /> Your 1948 3.3 HP Evinrude takes a Champion J8C plug, gapped at .030. The new number for the J8C is...#841... This plug is used on all 3.3 HP <br />Johnson/Evinrudes from 1948 thru 1951.<br /> <br /> ...Bob in Calif...

If you are looking for spark plug "boots", go to your nearest small-engine dealer (lawn mower) shop, they can fix you right up. :)
