I have an 1948 Evinrude Sportsman, Model 4425, 11/2 HP that my father purchased new. It is complete and was running until put up some years ago. Can someone tell my approximately what it worth? Thanks

Re: Old Evinrude

Well Tabb,
It's worth nothing to a fisherman, but maybe 2 or 3 hundred to the right collector. Maybe more? But I will say from what I hear the collectors (like me) are notorious tight-wads and you'd probably be lucky to get a couple of hundred for it. Then again, I've never bought one that old, I like the 50's, so I may be a little off. BUt probably not much. And of course, condition is everything. Is the gas tank dinged badly? Are the decals present?
You can't post "what's it worth" questions at aomci.org (antique outboard motor club) but maybe you could post a free ad on their website and see what kind of offers you get. That would be the place to sell it. How about posting a few pics of it here? I'd love to see it. Heck, I might even have to PM you!:D
You could also get on the aomci.org "ask a member" site or the johnson/evinrude section on this site and get someone to help you get it running again fairly cheaply. You might hang on to it. You never know, maybe one of your relatives would be overjoyed to get it as a gift. A one-owner motor like that is really neat!:)
BTW, you could do a search on ebay and see what similar motors have sold for in the past. Although that can be misleading since there you have a bigger pool of people to look at it. I would be very, very careful to ask someone experienced on how to ship it if I decided to sell it. There's some good tips you might want to know.
Good luck,
JBJ
