God bless the people who designed and built the 1970 4hp. evinrude...I never said that about any other make or model i've owned....quite the opposite in fact.....however how do you tell if she's pumping enough water,other than spiting on the head.???

It should spit water out the relief holes about half way down to the water if it is pumping. That is no guarantee it will pump tomorrow. Or an hour from now. Your best protection is routine replacement of the water pump parts BEFORE it gives trouble. Then relax and enjoy boating without worry.
