Hi,

I have a small runabout that I'm working on to make a fun summer boat. 14 feet, 30HP outboard.

It has the old cable and drum type steering which I am planning to use. The only thing I needed was cable and tensioner springs.

I have the cable now but does anyone know where I'd get the tensioner springs from? Or perhaps someone has some for sale?

Thanks,

Dan

Mellow is correct. I have seen them at hardware stores and at West Marine. I have this steering on my old runabout. I like it. Very responsive..

Try here:

web page

I would replace it with a teleflex or morse rotary single cable sys and no more problem and less noise from slapping cables, (just my opinion)

Hey Dan, depending on your setup, you could hook it up without springs and be just fine. I had a little 12 footer with 25hp that worked quite well, just tighten the cables occasionally.

Only one spring is required and works much better than 2.
