Re: Old Gas!
I think I read it takes 6 months for gas to start to turn to water "on its own." "On its own" probably means that the gas is air tight with no excess air and at room temperature. But I’ve seen gas that was less than 2 months old make my motor smoke a lot more than fresh gas. I’ve got an older motor that used to have a tank that was never air tight. Gas older than 1 month in it was worthless. In a sealed tank I would estimate it lasts 2 months. Also, in the summer when it is almost 100 degrees the gas probably spoils twice as fast than in the winter. So it depends on how well it is sealed and the temperature. If it is sealed and hot, I wouldn’t go over 2 months. If it is barely sealed or has more air in the tank than gas, I wouldn’t go past one month.

I will fill the tank with enough gas to last me about one week. That way I can fill up with fresh gas once per week. About once per month or two, I will try to use up all of the gas and dump the rest.

I always have a 2 gallon extra tank in the bow of the boat that is completely full. I rarely have to open it so I will keep it for less than 2 months. I just dump it in my truck and refill the tank every 2 months.
