Old Gas

HELP. I boat my first boat over the past weekend. I did't know it until it was too late but it had gas in there from 2 years ago. It has a 120 Johnson on it. It starts up great but won't take a load. It just boggs down. From time to time, it seems to get enough gas and takes off and runs great for a little bit but goes back to bogging down. I siphoned out the gas and put new plugs and gas in and the same problem exists. Any ideas???

Definitely time to remove and clean the carbs. Gas left for two years has likely turned to varnish and is clogging the jets/passages in your carbs.<br /><br />If you haven't already, buy a manual which will give you a step-by-step process for removing, cleaning and reinstalling your carbs. Really not that difficult, but the manual is nice to refer to when you can't remember things like which jet goes where.<br /><br />Prior to starting, buy yourself a "carb kit" for each carb on your motor from your local evinrude/johnson dealer (I think you have 4 carbs on that motor). Basically each kit gives you new gaskets, float and float valve for each carb. They aren't that expensive and well worth replacing while you've got the carbs apart anyway.<br /><br />Finally, replace your inline fuel filter. The old one is probably gummed up with varnish.<br /><br />Good luck.
