I recently purchased a boat, motor, and trailer that had been sitting in an old barn since 1988.
The boat is a "Shell Lake" 15 foot open out board fiber glass Possibly built in the mid 50s to mid 60s.
The motor is a 1955 Scott 71/2 horse outboard. I cleaned it up replaced all the hoses and lubricants and removed the spark plugs and cranked it over several times so as not to gall the cylinder walls. When I tried to start it it started on the second pull which makes me think it must be in good shape.

The trailer is a "Float Load" made in Portland Or. possibly in the mid 50s to mid60s.

I would very much appreciate any information on any of this outfit

Thanks

Shell Lake runabouts were built in Shell Lake, Wisconsin and there does seem to be some demand for them in the fiber-glassics community. I think they're really sharp looking. My grandparents live up there and you see a few out in fields every once in a while. Shell Lake itself is a beautiful 3000 acre lake that's full of walleye and pike, but I digress. You've got yourself a classic and I'd hold onto it.

Scott-Atwater outboards were made in the 40's and 50's, then sold to McCullough and became Scott-McCullough, then McCullough and then disappeared. They're good motors. They made one called the Bail-A-Matic that had two impellers...one for the water pump and the other to pump water from your boat...problematic design cause it made it hard to change the pump impeller. Hope you have a plain-Jane Scott-Atwater instead. Acme Outboards has a service manual for 1946-56 Scott-Atwater motors.

find an impeller and service the water pump before putting in the water. do take a chance of burning up the motor, on your first run.
