old glass dinghy
I acquired a fiberglass dinghy under a ''free stuff'' sign by the side of the road- and it is in sad shape. The exterior had been repaired with rough patches, resin runs, and no sanding. The interior wood is badly weathered, and all the paint peeling.
So- first order of business will be to remove all the wood, seats and gunnels, then use a powerwasher to clean it up, remove as much peeling paint as will lift and see what I have.Napier environmental[ www.napierenvironmental.com ]makes some very excellent non toxic strippers that I have used in the past, and this save a great deal of time and effort to get everything down to the substrate.Easy to use- brush it on, leave it overnight, then powerwash it off right down to substrate. This stuff won't harm the gel coat, either[ R&D done at Canoe Cove Marina to strip anti fouling paint],completely non toxic, no fumes nor does it burn exposed skin.
Once all that is done, then it's going to take some serious sanding to clean up the patches and fair the hull.I may just use a regularPorch enamel, or spring for one of the two part epoxy paints, depending on how it looks..
