We are planning on taking a trip on the Cumberland River later this summer. Our plan is to put in somewhere near Gallatin, TN. Boat through the Old Hickory Lock, and proceed down the Cumberland stopping in Nashville for a night or two.

We have never been on the Cumberland River, nor Old Hickory. So a few questions:

1. Any good launch ramps around Gallatin (or east of that) that would allow multi-night trailer parking?
2. I plan on calling Old Hickory Lock regarding lock times, but does anyone have general knowledge of the operation times of this lock?
3. Are there any issues navigating the Cumberland to Nashville?

Any additional information would be appreciated (such as sights to see along the way, etc.)

We are currently looking at getting a dock for 2 nights at Nashville Riverfront Dockage, and a hotel downtown.

Thanks in advance.

I took this trip once in like 1997 or 98 with some friends. We took a house boat and a 20 ft ski boat. No problems at all. There are a few places in hendersonville to launch that you could leave your car several nights for sure. I especially like stark knob boat ramp its in a neighborhood kind of. Nothing really, a marine radio might be good for the locks. Good luck
