Old Johnnys..year? late 40's-E 50's?
Picked up 3 in the back of the barn. One cowl (gas tank) appears to have a slightly different or smaller appearance in the formed radius that goes around to the back of the tank. Other wise, all 5hp DD, with zero makings anywhere. Any comments welcome. Thanks

Judging from the decals the first motor is a 1953 TN-28, the second and third motors would appear to be TD-20's made beetween 1946 and '48 as they changed decals in 1949. See the link below,

http://www.nymarine.ca/jondeclist.html

Hope this helps ;)

Check for a welsh plug in the block with a serial number. We'll be able to pin the year deadly with that. But really what MCM has told you is sufficient for wrenching.
Search this forum for "TD-20" and you'll find lots of good information. Folks who run them sure seem to like them.

The model numbers will be stamped on the block itself, port side, near the seam where the block meets the exhaust housing.
I concur that motor #1 is a TN-Series motor, as it has the triangular swing-out neutral clutch arm on top of the gas tank, port side. The "N" designated the Neutral feature.
Second/third motors are both TD-20s. Serial number will nail down the year. The "D" designated it as the deluxe model. There was a TS-15 model that was the "standard" model and lacked the recoil.

- Scott
