Old Johnson Ignitions quistion's

Hi and thank you for looking at my post. I have a 1969 115 horse Johnson outboard motor that runs like a top. Because of its age I?m finding it harder and harder to find parts for it. Such as electrical parts like the rotor I found out they stopped making in 1987. I would like to see if you guys think I can convert it over to a newer year ignition system. Something says in the mid or late 70?s if there?s much of a difference at all. Thank you for your posts.

I don't possess that knowledge myself BUT I do know that some of the members here have converted that ignition to the regular automotive ignition setup. Hopefully they will be along shortly with that info.
