Part IV of my stupid antics in my very old boat.

You can check some of my other horror stories here

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=028345

I smashed my last prop on a rock bar and when changing over i noticed on the prop that I used to replace the destroyed one (looks like the original that the guy I bought it off gave to me), that the prop has two grooved running down the inside sleeve, but the rod it slide into does not have any?

So currently there is a bit of play in the prop, seems to slide between the two grooves.

There are two main holes on the rod that connects to the engine, however no matter what I try, the prop can only go on so the hole on the prop sleeve do NOT line up with the holes on the rod.

But I can put a split pin and cap through the other two holes further out towards the end of the rod, but this allows the prop to have that bit of play in it.

Is this a problem? I am not taking her out unless this is a bad problem.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

Sounds like that prop is for a different engine.

I wouldn't use it. The wrong prop could damage the gearcase and/or the propshaft.

Get the right prop number for your engine. There are always used props for sale on eBay.

Darn those rod, pin, thingies.

If the shearpin will not fit up corrctly during assembly than you must find a prop like the old one.

Many thanks but I swear that the prop I put on looks just like the original? Should there be any play in it at all?

The prop I put on slides on like a baby when I slide it into the grooves, but it has about 1/2 inch play in it when on. If I try to put it on so the holes on the prop line up with the holes on the shaft, it wont go on at all. Should I force the issue?
