I have a 1976 Mercury 110 9.8 hp I am trying to restore. I need a source or a good substitute for what mercury calls a blanket. This is material that goes on the inside of the upper cowl. I also need what they call the seal which is made of rubber and goes around the inside edge of the cowl where it sits down on the lower cowl. Without these in the cowl it is louder and the cowl will not fit tight but will rattle around. The guy before me solved the problem of rattle with some sort of gummy material in three or four spots. It was a minimal fix at best and was not stable. I am also wondering how mercury attached the blanket and rubber seal. I have found these parts but they show up as obsolete and not avaliable. If anyone out there has any suggestions or info please let me know. Thanks

Try www.boats.net for the parts. They have just about everything. On my 1973 Merc 75 7.5 HP which is practically the same motor as yours, the blanket appears to be glued in. Mine doesn't have any type of rubber seal around the top cowel. All it has is rubber around where the starter rope/handle are.

Ok thanks for the reply. I have been to that site. Everything I am looking for like the Blankets and Rubber Seal are obsolete and not avaliable at this site. The one exception is the front blanket they want $16 plus dollars for. I can probably get something like some thin (1/4 to 1/2 inch) insulation and put that in. I don't know about the rubber seal.

www.maxrules.com is the place to go for old parts. Bill Kelly is a great guy and will go out of his way to get you the parts you need. If they're around, he'll know where or what you can do to work around it.
