OK. my grandfather recently gave me his boat, i have been doing the basic repairs(replace seats, added some carpet, and replaced some old wood) i must say the boat is looking good now...but now the more serious stuff..The Boat is a 1971 and has Chrysler motor, the boat was taken out on the water last in 2005 it worked great then, but that was many moons ago. the boat has been sitting at my grandpas house every since then and i just want to know if anyone can tell me if this motor is gonna start up and what i need to do before attempting to start it up

Thank you fellow boaters

Re: Old Motor Sitting

You sort of did it backwards. You should have checked the motor first. than worked on the boat. I hope it works out for you.

Re: Old Motor Sitting

i wasnt worried about it running at first i just wanted to give it a complete remodel so that my grandpa could see it. hes getting really old and he loved that boat.
But next time i will definitely be fixing the motor first, although it was a lot easier than i anticipated thanks to all the info and advice on iboat you guys rock! pretty
much the only thing i have left is to change out the fuel pump

thanks a million

Re: Old Motor Sitting

if the motor gives you the least problem, I'd replace it now before you get invested in it.
