Re: old motors

TD20 is a 49 5hp.

The second model number has an issue. Is it AD12?

Post some pics and give your location and these guys here will tell you everything you need to know.
Vintage collectables aren't worth nearly as much as new ones, but condition is everything.

Re: old motors

Yea, not only that, there may be someone interested in those motors too. The old TD-20 is still a really common motor, despite it's age. They built those things by the trainloads. Very good motors though. Take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. But yea, post some pics. We like eye candy ;)

Re: old motors

I gotta say, the old ones like the one in your sig look like they should be worth $1000s just as pieces of art.

Re: old motors

There are several problems with the numbers you gave.

Serial number 54216 was built in 1927 and no way is it a TD-20 which was built 1946-49

Serial number 267362 was built in 1937. There were MD models, but not that year.

Need better info.

Yea, I got some pretty neat old classics in my collection. Most all are good runners, but a few need some attention. There's not much value in my motors, but they're worth more to me, because I'm just an old outboard nut. LOL

Re: old motors

AD12 would be a 1958 Johnson 7.5hp. Basically a Fleetwin in disguise.

Re: old motors

Well, as a matter of fact, the Fleetwin went into production in 1950. The Zephyr was discontinued in favor of the Fleetwin. From 1949 to 1956, Johnson and Evinrude started getting more serious about sharing designs with each other and making more parts interchangable with each other. 1949 Johnson introduced the QD-10, being the first OMC with the FNR lower unit and 1950, the Fastwin had virtually identical lower unit. 1954, Johnson and Evinrude did it again with the CD and Fleetwin, the same lower units. Each of these models kept their own design of powerheads though. In 1956, Johnson and Evinrude combined and shared all models of motors with each other, and just keeping their own color schemes and shroud styling. In this year also, Johnson acquired the FD 15 (Fastwin in disguise) and AD 7.5 (Fleetwin in disguise) and Evinrude acquired the Sportwin (QD in disguise) and the Fisherman (CD in disquise) In 1951, both divisions worked together and combined the 25hp (RD and Big Twin) making it their first corporate motor. In 1952, they worked together again and built the Lightwin and JW's. Oddly enough, Evinrude acquired Johnson in 1936, but they didn't become more of the same motors, until the 1950's.

1951 The RD replaced the PO
1951 The Big Twin replaced the Big Fours
1952 The JW replaced the HD
1952 The Lightwin replaced the Sportwin (3.3)
1954 The CD replaced the TD/TN
1954 The Fleetwin was just improved with the FNR
1956 All models were available under both marques
