Hi Guys

New to forum
Have question on what I believe is old Johnson 15-18HP.
Serial /Model Tags Long gone (corroded away)
No Number on engine except on freeze plug with Johnson squigly emblem and the number 1531552 inprinted on it.
Engine block is deep red like Johnson Colors
Rest of the engine has been repainted a white over the red which I see on the faded areas.
The carburator is a Model A type with both High and Low Speed manually adjustable jets.
Starter is manual recoil
Mag is dual point, dual coil

Sorry no pics yet as motor is without carb and flywheel (available but off engine)

Any ideas?

Last time I asked someone about the number they said it was a part number for the freeze plug. Doesn't sound right to me.
Anyway it ran when I got it 3 years ago but now I need it for a kicker on my Mako and need to order parts for Carb and Lower unit rebuild (seals leak bad).

the number leads me to it being a 15 hp, back then they started serial numbers over each year. the same carb kit was used from 1953 - 1968, on 15,`8,20 hp motors this is it. http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=109333&gd_row=27&**********=889449697 . if you float is bad deteriorated, Laingsoutboards.com has the float in stock.
