My dad paid the registration fee every year since 1959 on his fiberglass boat even if it wasn't in the water. He didn't want to lose the low 3 digit number. He's passed away and I continue paying it. I plan on putting it in the water in a different state (registered in CO, will be in the water in NY) and using the same numbers. Is that legal? Will an insurance company allow that?
