Hello everyone, My searching brought me to this site , and Im in need of some advice.
I have a Sears model: 574.59660 year: 1967 Cooling: Air Cool HP: 4hp 1 cylinder
I bought it about a year ago, and decided too start working on it. So far today, I took the carb apart cleaning it, cleaning the tank, added new fuel lines. The motor seems to have good compression. the points had some green build up on them, i cleaned those and put a drill on it and spun it over there was a good spark so i put it back together and used some starting fluid and nothing happenned. I took the plug back out and the spark was gone, i tried some old plugs i had lying around and no spark.

So my next act is to get a new plug, I found an old thread on this motor and got the plug im going to need from that.
so my question is what would you check, test or replace on this if i still do not get a spark. And where would I go or call for such a part .
Thanks for any help. Mike

have you tried searspartsdirect.com for parts? It's amazing the selection they have.

As for the no spark: try cleaning the area that the points and condensor are screwed to the motor. What gap did you set?

Oh, starting fluid and small engines are generally NOT a good idea to have together. Yes, a fair number of folks get away with it. But I've also seen the damage it can do, and it's just not worth it. WD-40 is safer for your engine and you both.

Many many parts that are listed as in stock for the outboards at sears are actually not there, and they are so kind to take you money then tell you a week later they don't and won't have that part that was listed...and they don't have time to mark it no longer available....I'm just sayin so you don't tie up money with sears.

Thats a Sears Simpson McCullough and I'm almost sure I have seen that picture before
