Recently acquired an 18 ft krugerrbrand baymaster, the previous owner had 6” marine speakers mounted in the the two storage/seats up front. Down below facing the center console. I don’t want to put new ones in and would like to patch up the holes. I need those boxes for storage and it doesn’t make much sense to mount speakers there anyway. What is the best way to patch this? It seems like it’s just a thin layer of fiberglass. I have plenty of electrical and mechanical experience but never messed with Fiberglass before. I’m confident in my ability to learn but need a push in the right direction to get started.

the easiest is get a piece of foamed PVC board from your local big-box store, cover it with marine vinyl that matches the interior, cut out to the diameter of the speakers that you have, and screw over the hole using existing screw holes.

or simply just leave the speaker grill over the hole.

if you want to fiberglass the holes, I suggest you read the links in the DIY sticky. basically links 14, 15, 18, 2, 3, 4a, and 4b.....everything you would want to know about fiberglass repair is in there.
