What do I use to get old brittle stickers off my boat. I have to put the new registration stickers on but the old ones are not coming off. I took a razor blade to it and about 15min later I got one of the stickers off but not without gouging in the paint. It is an alum boat please tell me there is some magic chemical that will eat these stickers maybe a torch that might work:devil: really I wonder if I could do it carefully enough....

Re: Old stickers won't come off

i just took the numbers off my ol boat last fall. they'd been on since 1975. man were they brittle. i used a heat gun. a paint stripper heat gun. ya got to be carefull of corse as ya could probably start a fire with a paint stripper heat gun. but warm em up and then get it started with yer blade, and hopefully they'll peel off. i used finger nail polish remover to remove the rest of the stickys....kind of a mess, but it comes off in the end....

use a heat gun,a hair dryer might soften it enough, torch yes,but watch the alum.you can melt or warp it,easy off oven cleaner works on some paint, but if the boat is painted ,be careful, also, the alum.might react to the chemical, paint stripper?

Hair dryer and a plastic windshield scraper. Heat gun is too hot and metal scrapers damage undersurfaces.

"Goof Off" removes the goo very well.

15 min isnt that bad m8

try being more carful and use up 20 mins :)

I have heard that spraying some wd40 and letting soak will help ( mask around sticker first )

Re: Old stickers won't come off

I just removed some old stickers that came off very easy. Used a heat gun, warmed them up until they were soft (in my case, this took less than a minute), and scraped them off with a plastic scraper. Cleaned off the remaining adhesive with brake cleaner.

Good luck,

Rob.

Don't see why it wouldn't work. Just be careful not to use too much heat and use a plastic scraper.
