Fellas,

Whenever I need to order parts for my engine, I have trouble finding them due to the serial number that is posted on the engine (see attached photo). The serial number on the engine is OB110324. It is an '87 or '88 Mercury 115 Inline 6 Tower of Power, ELPTO. When I look up parts on any website, I can't find anything close to this number. Any ideas?

...that idea worked great! Thanks for the link...that site shows a range from B110054 - B239241 and confirms that the year is 1987. Cool beans.

That is the king of motors my friend.
It really is an improved version of the old 140/150hp motors that were rated at the head.
Rated 115 at the prop but closer to 160 at the head due to the high output cd ignition.
It has the best power to weight ratio out of anything made! (outboards we are talking)
Make sure you don't lug it under 3000 and don't let it run too long past 4500, but prop it so that it spins at least 5500 wot. It will run strong forever at 4200.
These are thoroghbreds that can handle up to about 8k if you build it right.
With mine trimmed up on a 15' cobra style, I'm able to get 6k at about 53 mph with a 19p cupped stainless prop.
But it still gets out of the hole in about 3 seconds. So I will be shopping for a 21p next year.

With my gps/fuel computer, most economical cruise for me is at 3150rpm @44 km/h where it gets 2.45 km/l. That's right about 5 mpUSg or 5.75miles per imperial gallon.

That drops to around 1.4km/l at near wot.
Look for a post on link and sync by Clams Canino and get yours dialed in properly.

And if you haven't already done so, chuck the autoblender and premix the oil/gas.
The autoblender will eventually fail and when it does, it takes the powerhead with it.

I agree with you 100 percent redjmp! Of all the outboards I have owned in my life, this Merc is by far the best I've ever had. I will check clams' post and get it dialed in properly. I used the autoblend for exactly one trip then promply took it off and have mixed ever since.....I could not trust the damn thing to do it's job properly....not with so much at stake! Thanks for the info.
