I am looking to buy an old basket case but I cannot even figure out what model it is. the HIN is not in the normal format so it has to be older than 1984, can some one decode this number PT04269 and tell me what it is? the guy told me he thought it was a 1979 26 footer, but Sylvan didnt make a 26 foot in 79 so I dont know what to think.

I could not find a data tag for it, do you have a clue what the largest motor I could put on it with that crazy motor lift bracket thing?

Re: Old Sylvan toon help

Ok I think I’m going to take the plunge and pick this bad boy this weekend. I will have lots of questions and take some pictures along the way. My first question is without a cert label how can I find out what size motor and how many passengers are legal on it?

I spent about 6 hours looking, and best I could figure is they didn't have standards back in 1970 like they do now so there just dosen't seem to be any information out there.

That looks like a good platform to start with. it looks like the toons are >21" which is a good thing. You could always mate a new transom on there if you were to put a larger motor on.

I like the location of the steeringwheel. I wish mine were that way.

Re: Old Sylvan toon help

It has a 35hp motor on it now. I am not sure what size the toons are but the toons are in near perfect shape, no dents scratches or repairs that I have found yet I will look it over real good once I get it to my house. I am having a little trouble finding a trailer big enough or cheap enough to tow her home. The best price I could find to move it one mile is $65. Do any of you guys know someone or some place who could handle something this big on the cheap near South Bend Indiana?

Pontoon trailers to fit that boat are very, very rare on the used market--and maybe non-existent.

I'd hate to see you have to buy a new trailer to move a boat that old--$2,500. They're available closeby you in Elkhart, however.

Sometimes boats need to be chopped up and recycled into beer cans--for the $.

If you look around or ask at a dealer ship or a marina, most do provide a moving service or know of people who do, it may not be cheep but if it gets it moved home where you can start work it will be well worth it. Then you can find a trailer, Getting the work started is whats on top of the list right now. You need to find some one with a scissor trailer.
