old tohatsu 8hp

i bought this old thing on ebay, its a 8hp, model m8A serial 35728 . i have found out that it is a 1984 motor. problem is tohatsu outboards were bought out in 1986 and they are now manufactured by a different company who DOES NOT make parts for the first motors from the first company. the gentleman at tohatsu told me this, i called the corporate number... anybody have any clue how i can get a waterpump?

Mike,<br /><br />Was the manufacturer bought out or the US Distributor?<br /><br />Do we know that a two year newer water pump will nopt work? It's a possibilty that nothing changesd.

dj, as per the gentleman at tohatsu corperate us, everything changed. it used to be called the m8a, and wwhen the new owners took over, they changed to the m8b.. some of the other smaller models are still called "A" models, but most have been switched to the "b " models<br /><br />two local dealers have verified this for me...<br /><br />not many people have knowledge of or expereience with these motors, wich is really bad cause the 3 that i own are the best starting and running motors ive ever had

Mike,<br /><br />Thjat's too bad. I think you've got yourself a "white elepant" there.<br /><br />I would be willing to bet that the impeller is NOT a unique design. It may take your finding a dealer that will let you snoop around in his parts bins.<br /><br />Good luck.
