old vs new motor

Will a 93 225 in perfect running conditions perform like a newer 02-05 motor of the same horsepower. Reason I ask is a friend of mine has a 93 225 johnson and was thinking of upgrading to a newer motor. He wanted to know if both motors of same horespower perform the same on his boat. He knows fuel economy will be better but as far as top speed and overall performance.

If youre comparing newer 3 liter OMC/BRP motors to the 93 OMC motor, yes the performance will be the same between the 225's. If the set ups are exactly the same. The 3.3 225 will have more torque and punch obviously.<br /><br />Comaring a 93 225 to a newer 225 HO doesnt count.
