Hi people. Iam new here so please bare with me. I have an older 50 evin. I got it 3 weeks ago . iran a full tank of gas with no problems. My second tank of gas was bad{oldtank} motor didn`t run very good so i put my other tank on and it ran fine. went again about a week later with fresh gas. lauched the boat, warmed it up and off i went. for about 2 minutes and it stalled never to start again. i`am auto mechanic by trade but know very little about boat motors. All i know is i have good spark and fuel. when i crank it over for a few seconds my plugs are all wet.I`am going to check compression tonight. what else should i look for. I will change plugs just because.
thank you for any help you can give me.

Belt timing jump? Flywheel key shear? Are you sure it is "good" spark? Sometimes the dist rotor arcs through to the shaft, giving a spark, but won't jump much of a gap. Another similar problem with the 50 was the coil arcing through to the case.

EDIT: When you said "older", I assumed a V4-50. If you have a twin cylinder 50, disregard everything I said. Helps to know what we are working on.

It's an older 50 Twin, not sure of the year yet. Trying to determine the year re: model number. I'll let you know when I find out.

Post the serial number here, thats a quyick way to find out all the "good stuff" about your motor.

As for "Old" if its newer than 1970, its not all that old compared to mine from the 50's.

The serial number doesn't help much. Need the model number.

Have you checked the compression? Getting water in the cylinders? A sheared flywheel key is still a possibility, but not too likely unless somebody has been messing with it and is too stubborn to use a torque wrench.
