older evinrude 48 spl backfires a little

runs fine idles fine. but some sort of miss is causing backfires. it poofs every 4-5 seconds at idle on the hose. does this mean carb job time or is it a spark issue. it has newer plugs and i will get new tomarrow

We call a poof a cough. A backfire is a loud BANG!!.

If she is coughing it is a bit lean on at least one cylnder, probably just one.

I don't believe in using a sledge hammer to kill bugs, so I would study the Manual on setting idle mixture.

not a bang like a cough. so its carbs and not spark?
