I have an older Evinrude 60. It runs well but does not get full power with wide open throttle. Please help. It is electric start and I believe it to be about a 1967. The serial number is 60735.

Is that enough info? If not let me know and I can try to dig up more. Thank you for your reply.

Re: Older Evinrude 60

I just got the boat and used it for the first time Saturday. The man I got it from hadn't used it for about 9 months. He gave me a receipt for $1240.00 and it looks like the whole motor was rebuilt from gearcase to carbs. I put a new filter on it but have not checked the plugs. This is my first boat and I thought if the plugs were bad the engine would run poorly. That is what puzzles me is how smooth it runs.

Re: Older Evinrude 60

twright .If the motor sat for 9 months without being started I'm guessing that your carbs are fouled with restrictive gummy deposits. That's one possibility. Before condemning carbs do another watercheck and when engine reaches the point at which it won't get up to speed , pump the primer bulb and see if it picks up.This will be indicative of a weak or failing fuel pump. Also note whether the bulb seems to colapse at higher rpm which is indicative of a fuel restriction up stream of the bulb,ie tank pickup tube or anti-syphon valve on tank fitting.Even possibility of defective bulb itself.<br />A visual inspection of the sparkplugs after a water test will show whether they are wet with fuel/oil mix or dry as in running lean.Post back and keep us apprised of what you find.
