She is a 1953. The serial number determines the difference between a '53 and a '54. Anything made after 70000 would be a '54.

Any questions just ask, alot of 50's OMC lovers on this forum.

Thanks for the answer, I will need to do some work on this one to get it checked and running. Is this one identified as a fast twin or any other name? I need to do some cleaning and checking before I will try to start it and may need to get some parts along with some manual.Any direction on this? Thanks

I am one of those "50's OMC lovers" Those old 25's are cool old motors and make great restoration projects. They're pretty forgiving and come back to life pretty nicely.

The '53/'54 Fastwin is a 15hp, yours is simply a Big Twin.

Most mechanical parts are still fairly common.

Parts manual can be found at marineengine.com

Did a compression test on both cylinders and they both were about 60psi, so looks like I will find another motor to work on that is not so involved. thanks for all the replies.

Re: older evinrude would like info

Well this motor is sitting in my garage and I can't stop working on it . I have the compression now up to 105 in each cyl. did a wet compression then rinsed and tried again. I think the rings were stuck from sitting a long time. It will need a new pull rope as this one has a nick in it and after cleaning it up now I will pull the flywheel and check the coils and points. The tiller handle arrow does not line up with the printed tag for start, shift, low, so will have to check that out. Is it possible to change the flywheel and make this an electric start? any helpful hints and info. is appreciated.

Dont worry about the arrow, it is just a rough guide, and over years never line up properly. It wont let you advance the throttle too far when in neutral anyways. Glad to hear compression is up, you're almost there.

I was trying to get spark and by grounding to the head with a screwdriver I was able to only get a very small spark. So looks like I will be replacing the coils and the points. Will get the manual now for the 25hp.

Get yourself a cheap adjustable inline spark gap tester, under 10 bucks and one of the most necessary tools you will have for testing outboards.

Set the gap to about 3/8"
