Hey guys just wondering what the difference is in the 33hp and the 35hp outboards. Obviously one is 33 and one is 35. I have heard the 33 is more of a heavy duty commercial version. Geared different etc...

What year of 35hp? The 1957 model is basicly the same as the 33hp. The 58 and 59 models are differnet but still share the same crank, rods, pistons. The 1976 and newer 35hp is a totally different engine

I'm refering to the late 50's 35hp and the late 60's 33hp engines??

Thanks again,

Essentially the same design. The 33s were a bit more mechanically refined and made use of the beefier 40hp crankshaft. Many parts (but not all) will interchange between them. No real difference in power - 33 or 35 is not likely to translate to real world, seat-of-the-pants difference...

Re: Older Johnson 33hp vs. 35hp???

In the 1960's the popular motor was the 40hp, with all the bells and whistles. But they decided they needed a low priced competitive motor. So they sort of resurrected the '57 35hp. But a number of improvements such as some bearings and stuff from the 40 were incorporated into it, so in the strict sense of the word it is not the "same as". The most obvious difference is the fiberglass hood. There was also the Gale branded motors. Actually they more closely resemble the 33. The engineers were pretty good at mix and matching existing parts to get what they wanted.
