Within the throat of some of the older Mercs is the plastic venturi part. Looks like a gun scope or something. I was wondering what effect they do have and what is the effect of leaving them out . They are a pain in the butt to install.Thank you in advance for your replies.

Explain why they are " hard to install " ?----Or how do you try to install them ?-------Do you remove the nozzle when slipping them into position ?-----I have no problem.

If the Carb didn't need it, it wouldn't have been there in the First Place

Venturi's in carbs narrow the throat, increasing the velocity of the intake air and thereby lowering it's pressure. This low pressure air allows fuel to "spray" into the moving airstream, creating a burnable mix for the motor combustion.

I recommend you keep them.
