Older motor tach hookup

I just put a 1975 Evinrude Hustler on my 16 1/2' Sea Nymph. I hooked up the tach but need to know how many pulses to set it on. I had a 50 horse Evinrude 2 cylinder and the tach is set for 6. The 75 is 3 cylinders so I figured it would be different. Thanks.

The number of cylinders has nothing to do with the pulse setting. Pulses for the tach come from the charging system. Use the same 6P setting.

One more stupid question. Is the charging system the same on the '75 motor and the '94 motor?

It doesn't matter if they are identical. .If both are 12 pole units both provide 6 pulses.
