hello, I have a 18 ft.flat /john pretty sure it is 16 inches at the stern ...Q.at what year would you look towards for a 35/tiller shortshaft that comes with ....electric start/& altinator also ,it`s a heavy boat I`m not into speed but would like something there if I needed to seek shelter ...safty 1st.plus how do you read the motor like ....J/35 *&%??looking for .....35hp/tiller/short shaft/elec.& alt.,that size motor should push it along with just 2 people ...right?...thank you very much I`m looking for a motor and i`ve got to get it right the 1st time around ...poor in green but rich in outdoors again thank you.....albonn

First make sure its actually 15", no need to hunt for one if its a 20".

Next, don't worry about it too much, you can easily raise it the 5" if it is 15".

Find the best motor you can for the money, finding a great 20" motor for a good price is better than getting a beater 15" model just because it will fit.

and used short shafts can be hard to find, because they are popular.
