just went to the show. not to bad. was interesting, i didn't see one volvo drive. :( alpha 1s, bravo ones, maybe one bravo 3, one or two x's on bahas. they had all the major mfgs. there. none really impressed me. they all looked the same except, for a criss craft. very nice looking boat. only 50K. lest it had a 4.3 mpi. still an alpha1.
do ya's all think that because i'm a financialy challenged boater, that it seems to me that older boats seem to have more chacter to them?

the one thing i did see that was interestin was a surface piercein outboard. outboard mud drive? maybe. i thought the website was pro outboard.com. but i can't find it. it was a ritchous drive with the prop doing a 45* angle instead of a 90* angle. had a large weld down the leadin edge so it can hit logs and the likes. had video of them goin right over stuff like that. and drivein thru mud, and over bogs and stuff...very cool. + the more i read about surface peircen drives, the more i like them.....

least i beat the snow storm that's occurein right now. bummer. heavy wet stuff. tree breakin stuff. my boats under a tree....:(

man i'm board with winter........

Re: omaha boat show

perhaps this type of drives don't apeal to folks here. i reckon most are from big waters. in nebraska. the platte river is only 30 miles away from me. it's limited to air boats and canoes mostly. atvs even. mighty shallow waters to non existant in the dead of the summer drougt here. would be mighty cool to be able to access that body of water with something like these drives. let alone the missouri and it's side channels or the much debrit it has in it, w/o worry of shearin off a drive. ie dead head logs and refriderators and the likes.
also. one of the best lake trips i ever took was with my dad. his cabin is on the mantrap chain of lakes in MN. it's 12 lakes connected by rivers. dads cabin is on the last lake in the chain. we did 6 of the lakes in a 16' sears alum. fishin boat, 6 hp wards seaking ontoit. had to portage up a rock dam even. many lilly pads, reeds, deadwod, rocks, bog obsticals. water so clear ya could drink it. loons, turtles, ducks, snakes, musk rats, lateta, wildlife to the max. would have been real sweet to have one of these drives.....it apeals to me to get back into the shallows......reckon i wont do that with my current aristocraft. oh well. ea. has its purpose.........

I wish we got the snow that you have in the eastern part of the state.:'( Not much moisture here out west, let alone a boat show! Do you boat on the river or is there a lake in that part of the state that you like?

hi plainsman, i didn't know there was anyone from ne. on this forum. cool.
i wish ya were gettin some moister too. it runs down this way. montana, wyoming, western ne. all are feeling the drought. the engineers barely keep enough water in the missouri to go boating. the low water does leave some nice sand bars to hang on though. i havent been to big mac for years cause of the low water. that nice sand out there eats 2 wd vehicals for lunch. where do you boat at? i do branched oak lake. it's a half hour from my front door. 1800 sq acres so they say.

this was last fall on branched oak, one of my last outtings before winter.....

this is a series of 4 or 5 pics. stiched together by the computer. it sure was tranquil out this day.....same lake, different day last fall....
i'm ready for spring.....

Hey Ziggy,

I go the Lake Minatare from late May until mid Aug. It depends on how much snow Wyoming gets, it's really a res. for farmers so the depth of water and length of boating changes year to year.
Also like to go to Gleno in Wy. I don't the size but I did find this info:
"This body of water covers 12,500 acres and has 78 miles of shoreline. On the east side of the reservoir is a series of sand dunes. The hills on either side of the reservoir are studded with pines and rock outcroppings."

Lake mac is so low that you have to have a tractor launch your boat, so I haven't been there.

looks like ya frequent some nice lakes man. cool. pretty pic too......i'm hip about them tractors at big mac. that's the only thing that gets around in that sand......seen a few 4x4's buried up to the axel out there too...amazing stuff....one of them out boards i seen at the show would probably get ya around better in that sand. :)
