Hope somebody can help me out. I have a 1989 OMC sea drive v-4 115hp. Once I get it started and go out for a good run and the engine is hot. It will die. Sometimes it will start right up, but when I put it into gear it dies again. Other times I will be going thru the harbor at 5mph and just die. If I do get started again it idles rough like it running on 3 cylinders. I replaced the power pack. Rebuilt carbs, new impellar, pulled heads to de-carb. Funny thing.. When I get the thing home..it fires right up.. Will, a bad stator assembly or timing senor assemble do that???? What should I look for? Im going to pull the flywheel off to see if I find anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or Imma just bring some tools to drop the motor where it stopped. Then buy a 4 stroke. Thank you

MeMelato,<br /> Try a compression test on your motor first, then go from there.Did you use new head gaskets? Other than that it could be overheating.Lack of oil(lubrication) or water pump/thermostats(stuck).Is there a strong telltale of water when hot?

Thanks for a response. Maybe I used the wrong term, when I said the engine is hot. I mean after it has warmed up. After 2 mile run on the sea. I will slow down to stop and fish and the engine dies. Then its hard to start. If I do get it started it runs like is on 3 cylinders. So, when i put it into gear it dies. I was slow poking around in the harbor 5mph and it just died. I just put a new power pack in it..so I was testing it out before I ventured to far out. So, when it died I checked for spark...didn't have any. Got the thing back home and it fired right up... Maybe a bad stator or timing base senor assemble is what Im thinking...Compression is 110 in all four holes. Any input would be appreciated...Thank you
