I have all of the parts (purchased from an OMC dealer) to replace my thermostats. My question relates to the round cork gasket that fits into a groove in the plastic valve body. It sticks above the surface of the valve body by about 1/64" The thermostat sits on top of this gasket followed by a gasket that goes over the entire valve body. It would seem that this might prevent a good water tight seal unless this cork gasket compresses a good bit. I suspect that this is the way it was designed but it just dosen't look right.

Am I looking for a problem that isn't there?

Thanks,

Howard - Miami Fl

Hi SoLittle, I'm guessing you have a sea drive motor. If so, Yes that is the way it looks when you put it together. When you put the whole thing together, the thermostats will be pushed tighter against the gaskets, provided you have them in the correct location. ;)

Yes Iceman I have the Sea Drives, actually two of them on the back of my 23' Wellcraft Fisherman. I didn't mention that as I thought the motors were the same as the non Sea Drives.

Any idea why the Sea Drive thermostats would be different?

Also any idea on the horsepower of these motors? They have the bowl shaped exhaust cover if that means anything.

I believe the OMC 1.6L Seadrives are 120hp...
Good Luck!

SoLittle,

That is exactly the same way that the regular outboard thermostats go together. I didn't think it would work either the first time I did it, but it does.

The 1.6 is a crossflow. The "120" type is either 1.8 or 2.0 liter looper.

Good luck!
