OMC 120 lower question

Hello, I'm looking at a boat with a OMC 120hp engine drive combo. I believe its a 400 but not sure. Its a 1975 model. It has a bad lower gearcase and I was wondering if an outboard gearcase was the same. Someone told me parts interchange between the 2. I think he means the props interchange but was wondering if anything else does.

gb<br />if its a 1975 it should be a stringer electric shift theres no dought that you can find the parts to make it run if you look hard enough or spend enough money<br /><br /> but if you dont allready own it it would be much better to find a boat with something that was not BAD when it was brand new<br />(trust me on this it was the last drive that i had formal training on before i left to fix things that did not float)<br /> and you still have some chance of buying parts for it or getting it serviced if its beyond the DIY level<br /><br />tommays

You'll be $pending Way Too Much................<br /><br />Keep Looking,......................At Other Boats.............<br /><br />And,.. If the next 1s say OMC, Anywhere on them,................ You're Still looking at the Wrong Boat..............<br /><br />Don't become a Frustrated Ex-Boater.......<br />Find a craft that's within your means, That Still has Good Parts & Service Availability............

Thanks, I thought it wasn't worth buying and fixing but I thought I would check. If it had a Merc I would probably lowball them. What started it was someone told me the lowers were similar between the v4 johnnyrudes and the 400 and since I have 2 v4's that need work well maybe its worth checking.

hello<br /> take the advice. a stringer unit was junk when new and got worse, there is not much inside the unit that will interchange with an outboard unit. if it is infact an electric there really is no interchage. maybe the drain plugs.<br /> even the hydromech and the mech shift units were troublesome. go find something else<br /> keep looking.
