OMC 2.3 L Ford Engine HP

I have a 19',87 Cobia Odesy197SCV with an OMC I/O drive... Power is a Ford 2.3 L Engine, There is a 14X21 Prop on it now and it will not reach a planing speed...Have determined that the pitch is too high and am replacing the prop but need to know the HP of the 2.3 L engine in order to decide which of the 2 props listed for this engine.. If it's 120 HP it takes a 13 3/4X15 ,, and if it's 140 HP takes a 13 1/4X17...HELP!!!!Which one do I need.....Thank you

If it is the original motor then you can look on the title and it should tell.

Thank you kilowatt !!! It is the original motor but this is New Joisey where they don't do anything that would be sensible !!! It does not have the HP !! all it says in that area is "fbgls" for fiberglass...Being from Ky (Richmond)originally myself I would assume that they would have the HP listed where it appears on the title..

Gene,<br /><br />The 120 and 140 ratings are for Chevrolet based four cylinder engines and are crankshaft ratings.<br /><br />Your Ford OHC-2.3L is 128 hp. at the prop. THat engine will easily stand a WOT of 4800.

I have the same motor on my 17"' VIP Vision bowrider. My title says 120HP. I have a 13.75 x 17 on it now and I have been told to go to a 15 pitch. From Djohns post I need to. I am only running at 4500 WOT fully trimmed. What do you primarily use your boat for? Cruising, skiing, tubing, etc... <br />Hope this helps!

Kilowat 816,djohns19 and toby j,,, Thank you guy's for your input !! I relayed this info to my "know it all son" and he calculated the weight of the boat and my weight and we decided on the 13.75X17,,,He said "I told you so"... Will know this weekend if it works...Unless something else goes wrong !!!!Thanks again Gene
