OMC 2.3 only runs in Start position

Just bought an 87 blue fin with an OMC 2.3. It will start up fine but as soon as you let the key back into the run position it dies. I checked the ignition switch, that is fine. Also I checked all the purple wires and they all have 12v while in the run position... Any ideas?

Do you have 12V on the + side of the coil?

Yes, I jumped it to 12v+ and then it ran fine, unhooked the lead at the alternator and fiddled with the wires and now it seems to run fine . Raining today, I'll test tomorrow, but it seems like I just bumped a wire and now it's fine?
