I have a problem that I'm trying to remedy and have not been able to find anyone else who has experienced a similar problem. When my OMC 200 HP Outboard (Venom) is operating, it sometimes "cuts out" (it actually seems to shut off for a very brief moment and then
restarts as if someone has very quickly turned the key off and on). It seems to be intermittent, with no noticeable consistency. This occurs when the motor is operating (in gear). It
doesn't seem to matter what speed it's running at. I have noticed that it seems to occur more frequently in "wet" weather, either when it's raining or very humid.

If anyone has any idea what the problem would be, I'd sure appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance.

two things first when out running the boat disconnect the main engine harness. this will eliminate the harness and
ignition switch and isolate the motor.
Second check all the primary leads on your coils they would be the smaller of the two wires they are known for corrosion. also check stator for shorts to ground hope this get ya going in the right direction laters

Thanks for the reply. When you mention the "main harness", by this do you mean the large red connector on the side of the engine (under the hood)? I've checked the things that you mentioned, didn't find any burned spots or areas that had been arching. No corrosion on the connectors that are on the coils. If you're referring to the red connector, I'll have to wait until the next time I'm on the water and the motor is acting up before I check that. By "check the stater" do you mean to make a visual without pulling the fly wheel?

yes we are talking about the red cannon plug. once you start the motor, and it acts up pull the plug apart,if you no longer have the problem its in the key switch or the harness. also look at the magnets up under the flywheel as Clanton has suggested. if your capable remove the flywheel and check the centerhub magnet. these will cause all kinds of problems. good luck i read the post most nights hope it works out laters nj
