My dad has a 1970 Slickcraft SS-235. It has an OMC 225 sterndrive with electric shift. The boat was run without oil in the upper sterndrive section. It is toast. My dad is 76 and beside himself. The lower (skate) is fine, as the intermediate section between the V8 and the outdrive is fine. I have found complete upper and lowers online for a good price. If I chose not to re-use my working skate section, and swap a donor upper and lower unit in as a complete lower unit swap, I have read I should replace the water pump impeller as a minimum. To replace the impeller, I have to seperate the upper and lower, correct? How hard is this? How long does it take? What else should be done at the same time? Thank you forthe help in advance.
